Since 1986, the United States has recovered more than $20 billion dollars from companies who defraud government programs. The States also have recovered many millions of dollars of state funds unlawfully obtained by private companies who cheated state funded programs. The largest government recoveries have resulted from the efforts of private persons who alert the federal and state governments to fraud by filing a whistleblower lawsuit. These lawsuits, called qui tam actions, are brought under a federal law known as the False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. §3729 et seq. and by similar false claims laws passed by more than twenty states.

The lawyers of the Whistleblower Action Network have achieved some of the largest recent whistleblower initiated false claims act recoveries against some of the largest corporations in America, including:

  • a $400 million recovery against Merck® for Medicaid fraud involving Vioxx® and Zocor®;
  • a $134 million recovery from Northrop Grumman for fraud in the B-2 “Stealth” contract and in other military programs;
  • a $50 million settlement for Medicaid fraud by Omnicare®, the nations largest pharmacy for nursing homes;
  • a $37 million settlement with CVS® pharmacies for Medicaid fraud involving drug switching of generic Zantac® (ranitidine).
  • a $35 million settlement with Walgreens® pharmacies for Medicaid fraud involving drug switching of generic Prozac® (fluoxetine) and Zantac.
