Disaster Relief
A city borough agreed to pay the government $160,652 to settle False Claims Act allegations concerning Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster assistance. The borough had requested funding to repair and replace holiday displays and volleyball courts it claimed were damaged as a result of a Nor’easter. Proposed work included tree replacement, debris pick-up, and sewer cleaning. The Borough admitted that the work was not performed properly, or the damage was not the result of the storm, and that false documents were provided when it applied for the disaster relief.
